Human Rights Office supports specialized training course in Sulaimaniya

The training course, titled “Proposal Writing”, aimed to build the capacity of participants to devise, draft and submit human rights project proposals for potential funding and other support. The participants focused on the elements of preparing proposals for the OHCHR recent call for applications for the UN Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Torture and UN’s Voluntary Trust Fund on Contemporary Forms of Slavery.

Deputy Head of the NGO Media Organization, Ms. Bayan Ebrahim, noted that the training presented the first opportunity for the majority of the participants to learn more about the formal processes for preparing and submitting funding proposals for human rights projects, on how to approach donors, various avenues available for funding, and ways to more effectively raise awareness on human rights issues.

Mr. Dilshad Nasraw, the Head of Mrov Dost Organization, stated “[the training] is very important because it has deepened our understanding and knowledge on the process of drafting funding proposals and the importance of every single component of the process. Now our skills have been improved and consequently our efficiency and the quality of the proposals we prepare will be improved as well.”

Mr. Hardy Ahmad, the Head of Future Organization which initiated the training, delivered the closing address at the training, in which he stressed his appreciation for the role of UNAMI Human Rights Office in supporting and building the capacity of civil society organisations in the Kurdistan Region, and requested continuing support in the future.

The training course was part of a series of activities and technical support that the UNAMI Human Rights Office is providing in order to support regional institutions and civil society actors in protecting, promoting, and fulfilling human rights in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
