The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) Human Rights Office (HRO) together with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) organized a “National Training for Iraq on Human Rights at International Borders in the Context of Counter-Terrorism”.
The three-day training was hosted by the Al-Nahrain Centre for Strategic Studies in Baghdad from 15 to 17 February 2022. This training, organized in the framework of the existing and growing partnership cooperation between UNOCT, IOM and OHCHR, gathered over 17 senior officials engaged in border management issues.
The objective of the training was to enhance the capacities of national officials to better understand and apply internationally recognized standards and applicable human rights instruments, protocols and guidelines not only to ensure the protection of human rights while preventing cross-border movement of suspected or known terrorists and foreign terrorist fighters but also safe, orderly and regular migration.
