SRSG Condemns Baghdad Market Attack: One More Proof of the Terrorists’ Wicked Ways

Baghdad, 12 July 2016 – The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Ján Kubiš, condemns the suicide truck bombing at a crowded vegetable and fruit market in the northeastern Baghdad district of Al-Rashidiyah today in which many civilians were killed or wounded.
The SRSG expresses condolences to the families of those killed and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
“This attack, coming after the massive suicide bombing in Karada in central Baghdad and another bombing on a Shia shrine in Balad north of the capital last week, is one more proof of the terrorists’ wicked ways. The terrorists are simply targeting the innocent – women, men and children who were shopping at the market during the morning rush hour – in an attempt to make up for their battlefield defeats”, Mr. Kubiš said.
