SRSG Kubiš Pleads for Effective Dialogue and Reconciliation on the Occasion of Eid ul-Adha al-Mubarak

24 September 2015

Baghdad, 24 September 2015 – On the occasion of Eid ul-Adha al-Mubarak, and on behalf of the United Nations family, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Ján Kubiš wishes all the Muslims nationwide, a very happy and glorious Eid ul-Adha.

“On this sacred day and in these distressing times especially, I would like to plead for effective dialogue and reconciliation among all the Iraqis, so that the spirit of harmony, equality, justice, peaceful coexistence and cooperation prevails bringing back solace and happiness to the hearts of the Iraqis”, SRSG Kubiš said.

“Much more should be done to alleviate the daily hardship of millions of people, including improving their living conditions, access to food, water or healthcare. All the Iraqi’s need to feel that there is a future for them and their children in their own country. That in particular concerns also millions of IDPs, whether in the camps or in the communities hosting them”, the SRSG stressed, fearing that each day that passes brings more misery and despair, and deepens the feeling of abandonment among the Iraqis who continue to suffer from the unspeakable barbarity of the ISIL terrorist group.

“On this blessed day, I strongly hope that all those who were forced to flee their towns and cities, often at extremely perilous risks, will soon be able to return and live in peace and fraternity with their families, friends and neighbours”, SRSG Kubiš also said.
