Planting a tree for Peace

UN Iraq Special Representative Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert planted a tree at a school in Erbil, on 9th September 2019, responding to a challenge from Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani.
The Special Representative challenged President Barham Salih, Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi, and Speaker Mohammed Al-Halbousi, to join her in adopting this initiative as a national challenge of planting trees throughout Iraq.
On the 21st of September 2019, the United Nations observes the International Day of Peace, under the theme "Climate Action for Peace".
