PM Abdul-Mahdi receives UN Special Adviser and Head of the Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for the Crimes of Da'esh/ISIL, Mr. Karim Khan

Baghdad, Iraq, 29 November 2018 - Iraqi Prime Minister Mr. Adel Abdul-Mahdi received on 29 November the United Nations Special Adviser and Head of the Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for the Crimes of Da'esh / ISIL, Mr. Karim Asad Ahmad Khan.

During their discussions, the Special Adviser paid tribute to the victims of ISIL in Iraq as well as the efforts of the government and all Iraqis in driving ISIL from their strongholds. The Special Adviser underlined the commitment of the Investigative Team to ensure members of ISIL are held accountable for their crimes through the collection and analysis of evidence in accordance with international standards, and expressed his gratitude for the cooperation and support of the Government of Iraq during the preparatory stages of its work.

Prime Minister Abdul-Mahdi welcomed the work of the Investigative Team and underlined the important role that the Special Adviser had to play in ensuring accountability of ISIL in Iraq and globally. The Prime Minister and Special Adviser identified a number of additional areas which would benefit from further cooperation between the Investigative Team and the Government of Iraq.
