SRSG Ján Kubiš on Destruction of Historic Mosque in Mosul by Daesh: A Clear Sign of Terrorists' Defeat
22 June 2017
Baghdad, 22 June 2017 – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Mr. Ján Kubiš, said today that the destruction of the historic al-Nouri Mosque and its landmark leaning minaret during the fighting in Mosul’s Old City by the terrorist Daesh is a clear sign of their collapse.
“This latest barbaric act of blowing up a historic Islamic site adds to the annals of Daesh’s crimes against Islamic, Iraqi and human civilization. The destruction by the hands of Daesh of this mosque, where the leader of Daesh declared the so-called Caliphate, as the Security Forces closed in on the remaining Daesh terrorists in Mosul, shows their desperation and signals their end,” Mr. Kubiš said.
