Acting UN Envoy strongly condemns killing by ISIL of women parliamentary candidates in Mosul

Baghdad, 22 August 2015 - The Acting Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (DSRSG), Mr. Gyorgy Busztin, expressed his outrage at the news that ISIL had executed three women parliamentary candidates in Mosul City.

“I am outraged at the brutal murder of these three victims, who were executed for no reason other than being candidates in the last elections. This crime is not the first against parliamentary candidates by the ISIL terrorists”, DSRSG Busztin said.

“I strongly condemn this barbaric act of terrorism and call upon the Iraqi government to do its utmost to bring those responsible to justice”, Busztin added.

“I send my condolences to the families of all the victims of the ISIL terrorists”, Busztin further added.
