WHO Representative and Head of Mission

“Today, we mark World Mental Health Day. The global scale of the mental health challenge is immense.
In 2019, nearly one billion people worldwide lived with a mental disorder, including anxiety, depression, bipolar and schizophrenia.
Globally, 15 per cent of working-age adults have a mental disorder at any point in time.
This translates to one in six people.
Let us come together today and join in observing this year's World Mental Health Day, together with Dr. Hanan Balkhy, WHO Regional Director EMRO, and Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General, WHO Geneva.
We do that at the national, regional and global levels.
Shukhran.”
