The United Nations in Iraq held a Women’s Security Awareness Training (WSAT) session at the UN Headquarters in Baghdad from 16-17 April 2025. The training session brought together 16 female participants representing the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and the UN Agencies, Funds and Programmes operating in the country. The two-day training session was facilitated by Ms. Farah Hameed from the World Food Programme and Ms. Reman Hayder from UNICEF Iraq.
The Women’s Security Awareness Training is highly recommended for all female UN Security Management System (UNSMS) personnel. It empowers women with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to operate in higher-risk environments and equips them with practical tools and confidence to manage and respond effectively to security risks.
Grounding exercises were implemented during the training session to help participants release negative energy and stay focused. These activities supported emotional regulation, reduced stress, helped participants feel more present and connected, as well as enabled them to continue learning in a joyful and supportive environment.
Participants shared their positive feedback with the facilitators:
“This training helped me feel more confident and aware of the risks we may face as women in the field.”
“It’s not just about security — it’s about empowering us to do our jobs safely and effectively.”
“Now I understand how to assess situations and take action with more confidence.”
