The United Nations welcomes the election of Iraq’s new President by the Council of Representatives and considers it an important step towards the formation of a new government following the 11 November 2025 parliamentary elections, in line with constitutional timelines and provisions. This development marks a significant milestone in safeguarding the constitutional order and reinforcing the country’s democratic process.
The United Nations also wishes to express its sincere appreciation to H.E. former President Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid for his valued support to the work of the United Nations in Iraq, and for his contributions to strengthening cooperation and advancing national priorities.
