A group of 14 students, commenced a month-long internship programme at the Regional Office of (UNAMI)
Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq, 8 July 2019 - A group of 14 students, comprising 9 females and 5 males, from Tishk University and University of Kurdistan – Hawler, today commenced a month-long internship programme at the Regional Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) in Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq.
Welcoming the students, the Head of UNAMI Erbil Office, Mr. Ricardo Rodriquez, explained the role of UNAMI in Iraq and outlined the details of the inaugural internship programme. During the next four weeks, the interns will learn about the United Nations activities in the country and will prepare research papers in the field of Political Affairs.
They will also explore how to search, collect and compile news content, as well as engage in practical outdoor activities to create multi-media content for public information. The interns expressed their enthusiasm to be part of this new UNAMI initiative and to put into practice what they have been taught in their university lecture rooms. The internship programme, which is a result of a Memorandum of Understanding between the UNAMI-Erbil office and a number of universities in the Kurdistan Region, will run for two months and a new set of students from other universities in the Kurdistan Region will be enrolled in the following month.
