Alqosh and Bazani, Ninewa, 27 May 2021: Through a project by UNAMI Human Rights Office started in December 2020, female and male high school students in Alqosh and Bazani, primarily Christian and Yazidi communities, respectively, are learning about human rights. Working with school principals and students, UNAMI has created meeting places in the schools and provided their libraries with human rights-themed literature. It also organises regular activities with the students like thematic discussions which have included topics, such as non-discrimination and women's rights. Due to the pandemic these activities have been carried out through digital platforms. The project aims to foster leadership and empower youth with knowledge and skills to promote respect for diversity, participation, accountability and attention to vulnerable groups within their schools and local communities.
