Greetings Message

24 December 2017

Baghdad, 24 December 2017 – Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Ján Kubiš, extends his greetings to the Iraqi people, in particular the Christian community, on the occasion of Christmas and of the New Year celebrations.

“This is a time of joy and celebration, and it is particularly so this year because this is the first Christmas after the defeat of Daesh,” Mr. Kubiš said. “All Iraqis, regardless of their religion or tribal affiliations, have stood together to drive the terrorists out of the country. Let us remember those who have lost their lives over the past year as a result of terrorist acts and pray to God for their souls,” he added.

“My best wishes and greetings go to all on this joyous occasion, particularly those who are celebrating Christmas on 25 December. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,” SRSG Kubiš said.
