UNAMI: Daesh Terrorists Continue to Kill Despite Defeat on the Battlefield

17 September 2017

Baghdad, Iraq, 17 September 2017 – The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) has been informed of an explosion that killed a number of people, including members of the Popular Mobilization Units and civilians, in a village west of Mosul today.

The explosion was reportedly caused by a booby trap in a school in the Majareen village of Humedat sub-district, Mosul district, that was apparently planted by the terrorist Daesh group before their defeat and retreat from the area in August.

“Daesh terrorists continue to kill even after their flight. This latest explosion as well as suicide bombings perpetrated by the terrorists in the past few days, including against Iraqi security forces, Coalition forces and civilians, are stark proof of the dangers still posed by the terrorists across the country,” said the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Mr. Ján Kubiš.

The SRSG offered his condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
