Training sessions for students of the Faculty of Law and International Relations of Cihan University in Erbil

Erbil, Iraq, 12 March 2017 – The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) Human Rights Office (HRO), within its program of technical support to academic institutions in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, held four training sessions for students of the Faculty of Law and International Relations of Cihan University in Erbil.

Under the title “United Nations mechanisms for the protection of human rights in time of peace and conflict”, four training sessions delivered by HRO focused on UN mechanism for the protection of human rights, UN role in armed conflict, Rights of the child and role of UNICEF in the protection of children, and UN Charter and UDHR. Ten female and ten male students participated in the training which was held from 1 to 7 March.

Inaugurating the training, President of Cihan University, Dr. Faud Mawlood, stressed the importance of cooperation between the Cihan University and UNAMI HRO, and thanked for the continued technical support provided by HRO. At the closing ceremony, HRO provided the University’s library with copies of booklet “Nine Core International Human Rights Treaties” in Kurdish language.
