SRSG Kubiš welcomes the adoption of the 2016 Federal Budget Law

Baghdad, 17 December 2015 – “I congratulate the Government and the Council of Representatives of Iraq on the adoption of the 2016 Federal Budget Law," said Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, Jan Kubiš.
“I’m encouraged by the decision of the Council of Representatives. In this critical economic environment, the timely passing of the 2016 budget bill permits the Government as well as provincial and local authorities to work under conditions of budgetary predictability, to focus on providing services and support for the population, including millions of IDPs, while maintaining the fight against terrorism of ISIL. The enactment of the budget law permits all stakeholders to agree on further reforms and privatization, which are critical for improving the efficiency and diversification of the ailing economy, while providing for a more enabling atmosphere for growth and job creation”, added SRSG Kubiš.
