UN Envoy Conveys Eid-ul-Fitr Greetings to the Iraqi People

16 July 2015

Baghdad, 16 July 2015 – On behalf of the United Nations family, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Mr. Ján Kubiš, extends his best wishes to the people and the government of Iraq on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of the Holy month of Ramadan.

"On this Eid and at this crucial time, our particular thoughts and wishes go to the most vulnerable among the vulnerable, those millions of uprooted Iraqis who were forced to leave their homes, their villages and their cities, fleeing the murderous tide of violence, and struggling for survival and dignity”, Mr. Kubiš said. “It is our duty to support the Government of Iraq in its efforts to ease their situation, their suffering and to create conditions for their voluntary return to their homes in safety and dignity”.

The UN Envoy also expressed hope that “the spirit of harmony and coexistence bring a lasting peace and prosperity for all in Iraq, in fraternity, tolerance and justice”.
