UNAMI welcomes the extension of IHEC’s Board of Commissioners’ mandate

Baghdad, 13 January 2025 - The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) welcomes the Council of Representatives' endorsement of the Supreme Judicial Council's decision to extend for two years the mandate of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC)’s Board of Commissioners in the Republic of Iraq.
UNAMI underscores the importance of constitutional obligations and holding the parliamentary elections scheduled for this year. The Mission reaffirms its readiness to continue working closely with the Iraqi authorities by providing technical assistance to IHEC to fulfill its vital role in ensuring free, fair, credible, transparent, and timely elections.
