Baghdad, 25 October 2018 – Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Ján Kubiš, has welcomed the formal confirmation of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, and expressed appreciation of the efforts of outgoing Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi throughout the last parliamentary term. He also welcomed the Council of Representatives’ endorsement of the government programme and the partial formation of the new Council of Ministers, although he has voiced deep concern at the lack of any female representation among ministers announced thus far.

BAGHDAD – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) welcomes a contribution of €6 million (US$7 million) from the Government of Germany, which will support resilience and recovery efforts in Salah al-Din, Anbar and Ninewa governorates, as well as in the city of Mosul.
To provide governmental and non-governmental organisations with skills for developing coherent and compelling messaging in order to communicate with impact, UNFPA in Iraq organised three workshops in Duhok, Erbil, and Sulaymaniyah bringing together a total of 60 humanitarian workers to discuss the best practices in story-telling and photography.
Dr Oluremi Sogunro, UNFPA Representative to Iraq, held high level meetings with Mr Mohammed Al-Halbousi, Speaker of the House, Dr Mahdi Al-Allak, Secretary-General of the Prime Minister’s office, and Dhiaa Khadum, Head of the Central Statistical Organization, respectively.
