Baghdad, 15 January 2018 - The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Ján Kubiš, strongly condemns the terrorist suicide bombings in Baghdad this morning in which scores of civilians were killed or wounded.

The Secretary-General condemns in the strongest terms the twin terrorist attacks in Baghdad today. He expresses his deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.
Baghdad, Iraq 22 January 2018: UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is assisting displaced families across Iraq to acquire essential legal documents they need to access public services and assistance. More than 18,600 vulnerable Iraqis received legal documents and over 23,300 benefited from legal assistance related to documentation with the support of UNHCR and its partners during 2017.

Baghdad, 22 January 2018 - United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenča is currently on a three-day visit to Iraq. Mr. Jenča met yesterday, 21 January, with Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, Vice-President Osama al-Nujaifi, Speaker of Parliament Salim al-Jubouri as well as the recently appointed electoral board of commissioners. They discussed how the UN can best contribute to Iraq, particularly on the national and provincial council elections scheduled for 12 May 2018, developments in the relations between the federal Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, stabilization and reconstruction of Iraq as well as the upcoming international reconstruction conference for Iraq in Kuwait, and Iraq’s reconciliation processes.
Baghdad, 24 January 2018 – United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenča completed a three-day visit to Iraq during which he met Iraqi leaders and other interlocutors in Baghdad and toured liberated Mosul where he met officials and inspected critical UN demining, stabilization and rehabilitation activities. He praised Iraqis for triumphing over Daesh terrorists and urged them to seize the opportunity of peace and press ahead with efforts toward building a prosperous future for their country.
On 28 January 2018, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) officially handed over total 200 housing units in Ramadi and Fallujah, Anbar Governorate, rehabilitated under the project titled “Promoting Urban Recovery and Resilience in Newly Liberated Areas in Iraq” generously funded by the Government of Japan.
Some 70,800 people in Yathrib sub-district of Salah al-Din will benefit from a new pedestrian bridge that opened in mid-January. The bridge, built by UNHCR and its partners, is an essential crossing point for the Tigris River, connecting the east and west of Yathrib city.
