Karbala, Iraq - A delegation from United Nations Iraq visited the city of Karbala on Tuesday 24 October 2017. Led by Gyorgy Busztin, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG) for Iraq for Political and Electoral Affairs, the delegation had an audience with Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalaiee, the representative of the Supreme religious authority in Iraq (Marjaiya) Grand Ayatollah Ali Al-Sistani in karbala.

The UN SCR in 1325 reaffirms the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts, peace negotiations, peace-building, peacekeeping, humanitarian response and in post-conflict reconstruction and stresses the importance of their equal participation and full involvement in all efforts for the maintenance and promotion of peace and security.
