BAGHDAD, 26 January 2023 – UNICEF and WHO supported the Ministry of Health of Iraq (MoH) in conducting a nationwide multi-antigen vaccination campaign. The campaign reached more than 400,000 of the most vulnerable children with over one million doses of different vaccines, to protect them against vaccine-preventable diseases.

Geneva/Baghdad, 18 August 2016 – A UN report released Thursday details the heart-wrenching testimony of Yezidi survivors of ISIL atrocities in Iraq since the attack on Sinjar in August 2014, including accounts of systematic and widespread killings, sexual violence and sexual slavery, cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, forced conversions and forced displacement among other abuses of international human rights and humanitarian law.
Baghdad, 15 August 2016 - The Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (DSRSG) for Iraq, Gyorgy Busztin, strongly condemned the brutal killing of a journalist in Dohuk City in Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and called on the Government of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to implement urgent measures to guarantee the safety of all journalists and media professionals.
Baghdad, 12 August 2016 – The Human Rights Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) conducted a training in Baghdad for Iraqi bloggers with the aim of building capacities and raising awareness on human rights issues within the Iraqi context.
New York, 3 August 2016: Two years ago today, on 3 August 2014, fighters from the terrorist group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)/Da’esh attacked the Sinjar region of Northern Iraq. ISIL has waged a widespread and systemic campaign of sexual and gender-based violence, unseen and unimaginable in the 21st century, against the Yazidi population, and other minority groups such as the Turkmen Shia, Shia Shabak and Christian communities, causing countless civilians to flee their homes.

The Secretary-General reiterates his strong condemnation of the heinous crimes that continue to be committed by ISIL against the diverse ethnic and religious communities of Iraq.
