Erbil, 6 December 2010: Iraqi civil society representatives completed this week in Erbil a series of four training sessions in shadow reporting to the UN human rights treaty bodies. Shadow reports, often called ‘alternative reports’, are submitted by civil society organizations that deal with human rights to treaty monitoring bodies at the United Nations and other international institutions in parallel with a government\'s official report regarding the human rights situation in a given country.

Baghdad, 10 Dec. 2010 – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Mr. Ad Melkert, and the Minister of Human Rights, Ms. Wijdan Salim, presided over a ceremony today, marking International Human Rights Day at UNAMI Headquarters in Baghdad. Senior government officials, representatives of diplomatic missions, United Nations agencies, the press and civil society organisations were in attendance.

Baghdad, 1 February 2011- On behalf of the International Partners Forum (IPF), the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Mr. Ad Melkert, the UN Resident Coordinator ad interim Mr. Daniel Endres and the Acting Country Manager of the World Bank Mr. Yahia Khairi Said submitted the Iraq Briefing Book to H.E.M Nouri al-Maliki, the Prime Minister of Iraq.
Baghdad, 8 April 2011, The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) is concerned over reports of recent violent incidents in Ashraf camp resulting in deaths and injuries. UNAMI reiterates that efforts are needed to stop violence and aim at peacefully resolving all issues.
Baghdad, 16 April 2011 --The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) has been in close contact with the Iraqi Authorities with regard to the events of 7-8 April in Camp Ashraf, Iraq. Following a monitoring visit to the camp on Wednesday, 13 April, UNAMI met with the Iraqi authorities and shared with them the initial findings, confirming the death of 34 people with dozens injured.
Baghdad, 3 May 011- The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and the Iraq Office of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) congratulate the Iraqi press corps on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day. They commend them for their courage and pay tribute to the Iraqi journalists who lost their lives and those who continue to be subjected to persecution, intimidation and violence.
