United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced today the appointment of Mohamed Al Hassan of the Sultanate of Oman as his new Special Representative for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).  He succeeds Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert of the Netherlands, to whom the Secretary-General is grateful for her commitment and leadership of UNAMI.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, welcomes the recent donation of 940,000 Swiss Frances (approximately one million US dollars) from the Government of Switzerland. This funding will strengthen UNHCR’s programmes supporting refugees, internally displaced Iraqis and individuals at risk of statelessness in Iraq.
