Baghdad, 27 July 2020 –The Government of Canada has contributed US$1.85 million (CAD 2.5 million) to support the Government of Iraq’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Iraq.
On her first official visit to an Iraqi official, UNFPA Representative, Dr Rita Columbia, met with the Minister of Youth and Sports, Adnan Darjal, to discuss the continuous collaboration between the Fund and the Ministry and the youth vision 2030.
Baghdad 23 July 2020 — In 2020, the Government of Iraq (GoI) is working towards improving migration management and rebuilding the capacity of border points. These are priority actions to create the conditions for sustainable security and, therefore, safe orderly and regular migration. Strengthened borders are also critical components that promote economic growth, which has become ever more important in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Beirut, 23 July 2020--The COVID-19 pandemic is wreaking havoc on an Arab region struggling with decades-long development challenges, including occupation and conflict but also a dire economic situation, which have limited States’ capacity to mitigate the impact of the virus.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), World Food Programme (WFP) and the World Bank have collected and analyzed new data on the impact of the crisis on food security, and made corresponding joint recommendations in the first report of a new regular series, “The Impact of COVID-19 on Food Security in Iraq.”

It most impacted the vulnerable population of over 1.3 million Internally Displaced Populations (IDPs) and over 4.7 million returnees[1] sheltered in poor living settings in many parts of the country.

Anbar/Baghdad — During the conflict with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) more than 6 million Iraqis were displaced from their areas of origin. Nearly three years after the official end of the ISIL conflict, hundreds of thousands of families have returned to their areas of origin; an estimated 1.3 million individuals still remain in displacement.
