Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq and Head of (UNAMI)'s message on Iraqi Women’s Day

On behalf of the United Nations in Iraq, we are honored to extend our warmest congratulations and best wishes to the Iraqi people on the occasion of Iraqi Women’s Day.

As we commend the roles that Iraqi women have played and continue to play, as well as the sacrifices they have made throughout history, we take this opportunity to praise their pivotal role and contributions in defending rights, promoting social justice, and maintaining social cohesion.

We also highly value the sincere efforts of the Iraqi government in launching the National Strategic Plan for Iraqi Women (2023-2030), establishing the High Council for Women’s Affairs and the Higher Committee on Support for Women’s Political Participation, and introducing development and empowerment programs for women across various sectors. We call on the Government and people of Iraq to protect and build upon the achievements and progress made, for the best interest of the country.

Iraqi women have long been, and continue to be, an inspiring example for women around the world. We look forward to their increased participation across all sectors, as part of their noble and honorable role in fostering the stability, advancement, and prosperity of Iraq.
