Baghdad, 25 September 2019 - United Nations Deputy Special Representative for Iraq (DSRSG) Alice Walpole, accompanied by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) Principal Electoral Adviser, paid a call on Council of Representatives Deputy Speaker Bashir al-Haddad on 25 September to discuss the progress of preparations for the upcoming Provincial Council elections.
A biological remediation pilot project seeking to enhance nature’s own ability to clear up oil spills in Iraq’s conflict-affected areas is launched in Kirkuk by UN Environment Programme (UNEP) in collaboration with the state-owned North Oil Company and the Ministry of Health and Environment, and facilitation support from the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI). BAGHDAD – The German Government has provided the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Iraq with €17.5 million to address the food needs of Syrian refugees and to support returnees and vulnerable communities. Germany is currently the top donor to WFP’s programme in Iraq and has, for the past four years, consistently ranked among WFP Iraq’s top two donors.
