Baghdad, Iraq, 5 October 2018 - The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Mr. Ján Kubiš, congratulates Nadia Murad for being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, a recognition she receives on behalf of all Yazidi and other Iraqis who were victims of and gravely suffered from the genocidal barbarism of the terrorist Da’esh ideology.

Erbil, Iraq; 5 October 2018 – The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Iraq congratulates the Yazidi Kurdish human rights activist, Nadia Murad, who was awarded the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict.

Baghdad, Iraq; 4 October 2018 – Newly-appointed UNFPA Representative to Iraq, Dr Oluremi Sogunro, has assumed official duties after presenting his letters of credence in Bagdad to the Head of the Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Manhal Alsafi, on Thursday 4 October, 2018.

The Secretary-General congratulates Mr. Barham Salih on his election and swearing in on Tuesday, 2 October as President of the Republic of Iraq. The Secretary-General looks forward to working closely with President Salih on all issues of mutual concern, in accordance with the mandate of the United Nations in Iraq.

Baghdad, Iraq, 3 October 2018 – Gender inequality continues to prevail in Iraq with worrisome signals that it is deepening, requiring intensified efforts and coordination in developing a new action plan on implementing UN Security Council resolution 1325, UN Representative to Iraq Ján Kubiš said today at the high-level consultation meeting on the development of the 2nd National Action Plan.

BAGHDAD 3 October 2018 – A contribution of US$1.5 million from the Republic of Korea will enable the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to provide cash assistance to some 68,000 vulnerable displaced Iraqis through electronic cash cards and mobile money transfers.
