Baghdad, 17 February 2022 – The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) in Iraq welcomes an additional contribution of USD 5.7 million from the Federal Republic of Germany for residential area clearance in support of stabilization initiatives and post-conflict returns in country.

While millions of Iraqis are rebuilding their lives, an estimated 8.7 million people are still in need of life-saving assistance. Some 2.3 million people are displaced and many of the 3.5 million people who returned to their homes remain vulnerable.
On 12 March 2018, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) officially handed over a total of 100 housing units in Bartella, Nineveh Governorate, rehabilitated under the project titled “Promoting Urban Recovery and Resilience in Newly Liberated Areas in Iraq” generously funded by the Government of Japan.
