Baghdad, 28 February 2021 – Effective recovery from COVID-19 requires Iraq to mainstream environmental sustainability from the outset to minimise the pandemic’s impact, according to a new report released today by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Iraq in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
With support from the European Union, the programme will use employment-intensive approaches to create decent jobs and upgrade skills and employment services for internally displaced persons, Syrian refugees and host community members, while preserving and rehabilitating cultural heritage sites.

Assistive technologies such as wheelchairs are essential to improve individuals’ functioning, independence, and well-being, and enable people with disabilities to carry out their daily activities and participate actively in their community.
