Baghdad-21 June 2009-- The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG) Staffan de Mistura condemned in the strongest terms the abhorrent bombing in Taza district south of Kirkuk. The bombing on Saturday, 20 June, resulted in the killing of more than 70 civilians and the wounding of more than 180 others.

BAGHDAD, 1 July 2009 – The Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) angrily condemned the deadly bomb attack in al-Shourga market in Kirkuk, which killed and injured dozens of innocent people, describing it as yet another attempt to provoke reactions that would lead to sectarian and ethnic conflict, and aimed at undermining the hopes of the Iraqi people for an improvement in their lives.
Basra: Following the decision made by His Excellency the Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani, to allocate 5 billion dinars to support buffalo breeders in the marshes, a major initiative has been launched, coupled with the Ministry of Agriculture's (MOA) strategic decision to expand and scale up the successful European Union (EU)-FAO project activities from Nineveh to other affected governorates. This initiative will ensure the support of 15,000 buffalo breeders and their 263,000 buffalos in the southern governorates of Basra, Muthana, Thi-Qar and Missan.
Baghdad, 13 July 2009 – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG) Ad Melkert expressed his concern at the continued targeting of the Christian minority in Iraq, following yesterday\'s orchestrated bombings that hit several churches in Baghdad and Mosul, killing at least four people, and wounding dozens more, including children.

Baghdad-- 16 August 09-The Human Rights Office (HRO) for the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), in cooperation with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), has conducted a four-day training seminar titled Participation of Civil Society Organizations in the UN Universal Periodic Review Process for Iraq (UPR). The seminar, held in Erbil from 2 to 5 August, focused on building the capacities of civil society organizations to monitor and report on human rights in Iraq, to prepare for Iraq\'s first submission to the UPR.
