Baghdad, 24 July 2024 – The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) in Iraq welcomes an additional contribution of DKK 22,000,000 (approximately USD 3,173,170) from the Government of Denmark, which will contribute to support the Government of Iraq (GoI) to protect civilians from the threat of explosive ordnance (EO) and will enable humanitarian, socio-economic, and reconstruction efforts. Since 2015, the Government of Denmark has contributed over USD 38,000,000 to the UNMAS Iraq programme.

Baghdad, Iraq - 28 July 2024 - Ms. Cristina Albertin, the Regional Representative for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in the Middle East and North Africa (ROMENA) conducted an official mission to Iraq from 21 to 25 July 2024. Her mission aimed to participate in the 2nd Baghdad International Conference on Countering Narcotics on 22 July, hosted by the H.E. Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani, Prime Minister of Iraq, with the participation of eight countries affected by the growing drug trafficking in the region, particularly of “captagon” and methamphetamine.
The ILO, Ministry of Planning, and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS)/Italy held a joint conference to discuss the national MSMEs development policy for Iraq.

Baghdad, 30 July 2024 – The Government of Iraq and the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Iraq convened a meeting of the Joint Technical Committee on the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2025-2029) at the Ministry of Planning in Baghdad today. Senior officials and technical experts from UN agencies, funds, and programmes joined officials from the Ministry of Planning, relevant ministries, and national institutions for a detailed briefing outlining the structure and content of the UNSDCF, including its strategic priorities and outcome indicators. The meeting reviewed the progress made in designing the framework and included detailed discussions that provided further input to the document and determined the way forward. The UNSDCF will chart the partnership between the Government of Iraq and the United Nations in Iraq from 2025 to 2029.
