UNIDO's "Emergency Livelihood Support to Mitigate the Food Insecurity Crisis Among Vulnerable People in Iraq" project, funded by the Government of Japan, provided essential support to 83 women across IDPs, refugees and host community members, to revitalize dairy farming. The initiative, particularly focused on empowering women, aimed to help them rebuild their lives after conflict by offering six days of extensive training in modern dairy production techniques, hygiene practices, and entrepreneurship skills.
Participants gained vital knowledge in areas such as temperature control, pH testing, and business management, which significantly improved the quality of their dairy products and enhanced their market competitiveness. The training included practical sessions that allowed participants to apply their new skills hands-on. In addition to training, the project provided essential tools and equipment, enabling participants to scale up their production immediately.
This comprehensive approach not only helped individuals increase their income but also strengthened local economic resilience and improved food security within their communities. By fostering a supportive network of dairy producers, the project promoted collaboration and knowledge sharing, further empowering vulnerable populations to overcome the challenges posed by food insecurity in Iraq.
