Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General on the passing of the former President of Iraq, H.E. Jalal Talabani

The Secretary-General extends his condolences to the family of Mr. Talabani and to the Government and people of Iraq.

Mr. Talabani will be remembered as a compassionate political leader and a symbol of Iraqi unity who made a significant contribution to democracy, dialogue and mutual understanding amongst all Iraqi communities.
