UN’s Kubiš Strongly Condemns Daesh Terrorist Bombings in Baghdad During Ramadan; Horrendous Attacks Will Not Weaken Iraqis’ Resolve to Defeat Terrorism

Baghdad, 30 May 2017 - The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Mr. Ján Kubiš, condemns in the strongest terms the two terrorist bombings in the capital Baghdad on Monday night and Tuesday morning which resulted in many casualties among civilians as Iraqis observed the holy month of Ramadan.
The SRSG extends his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes the injured speedy recovery.
Mr. Kubiš stresses the Iraqis have suffered tremendously in the past from violence and terrorism, and they will not be swayed by the latest bombings. He urged the authorities to be extra vigilant during the coming period to thwart the terrorists’ aim of breaking the will of the Iraqi people.
“Our solidarity is with the people of Iraq. These horrendous attacks will not weaken their resolve to liberate their land from the scourge of terrorism.”
