UN Envoy expresses sadness at the passing of Ahmad al-Chalabi

Baghdad, 3 November 2015 - The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) expresses its deepest condolences to the Iraqi people over the untimely death of MP Ahmed Abdel Hadi al-Chalabi. As a leading figure in the National Alliance and as the chairman of the Iraqi National Congress, and a senior member in the Council of Representatives, Mr. Chalabi’s passing is considered to be crucial at a time when the country is facing critical challenges on multiple fronts.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of a senior Iraqi leader who had become a partner for the United Nations in Iraq and the region,” the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG) Ján Kubiš said.
“On behalf of the United Nation family in Iraq, our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Chalabi’s family, as well as all of those who have come to be closely associated with him on personal and professional basis,” Mr. Kubiš added.
