17 October 2022 - The world is at risk of yet another year of record hunger as the global food crisis continues to drive yet more people into worsening levels of acute food insecurity, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) warn. On World Food Day (16 October), the two agencies call for urgent action to address the root causes of today’s crisis as the world continues to face challenges without borders, including Iraq.
Geneva, Switzerland, 27 November 2017 – The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) Human Rights Office (HRO) launched a Study Tour for NGOs in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KR-I). The study tour focuses on the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations, including how NGOs can obtain consultative status. Representatives of 17 NGOs and related institutions in Iraq and the KR-I (12 men and 5 women) are benefiting from the study tour.
Baghdad, 1 December 2017 – The World Health Organization (WHO), with funds from the Government of Kuwait, has established a post-operative care unit in Al-Salam Hospital, East Mosul to enhance the capacity of Ninewa’s Directorate of Health to provide quality post-operative care for surgical patients during the first 24 to 72 hours.
Erbil, Iraq, 30 November 2017 – The completion of the second phase of the liberation of West Anbar towards end of October 2017 has resulted in need for humanitarian assistance for the current and displaced residents in the areas of Ana, Rua, Qaim & Obaidi. It is estimated that approximately 60,000 people, out of whom 15,000 are women of reproductive age, remain in Qaim, Ana, Rawa, Obeidi and the surrounding villages.
18 October 2022, Erbil, Iraq– The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Iraq concluded recently a three-day workshop in cooperation with Iraq Horticulture Development Program “IHD” and ECO Consult funded by the Ministry of foreign affairs of Netherland, focusing on the nursery management for the production of vegetable seedlings to increase farmers’ Skills and Knowledge development in vegetable seedlings production.
