UN Human Rights celebrates minorities and human rights film festival with Al-Iraqiya University students and academics in Baghdad

Al-Iraqiya University, Baghdad, 2 May: Over 100 women and men, including academics and students from the Arts Faculty of the Al-Iraqiya University joined UN Human Rights for a film festival on minorities and human rights in Baghdad Governorate.

Participants viewed films on human rights concerns including early and forced marriage, the rights of minorities, violence against women and girls, the right to an identity, and the impact of corruption on the enjoyment of human rights including the right to life. Following the screening of the films, all made by Iraqis, participations engaged in a lively discussion of issues including children`s rights, due process, peaceful co-existence of communities, harassment and discrimination against women and other difficulties encountered by women in everyday life, prisoners’ rights, and obstacles to exercising the right to work and accessing basic services. The most popular films, according to the audience, were `Cinderella` with `Colors`, ‘Give Me My Chance’ and `My Music` also attracting many votes.
