٠٣ تشرینی یەکەم ٢٠١٧

Kalar/Garmiyan Administration, Iraq, 3 October 2017 – The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) Human Rights Office (HRO), within its programme of technical support to civil society organizations, launched a “Training of Trainers on Training Methodologies in the Field of Human Rights Promotion and Coexistence” in Jalawla District/Diyala.

UNAMI HRO planned the training course in coordination with the Reform Institute for Development (RID), supported financially by UNDP. The participants included seven women and 13 men among activists, academics and members of the provincial council. The training course will develop participants’ skills in planning, delivering and evaluating training sessions. The training will run from 2-5 October and will include seven women and 13 men as participants.

During the opening session, HRO representative Mr. Zito Siany commended the great role of civil society organizations in promoting and protecting human rights and building peace and coexistence in the diverse communities, and discussed the continuous efforts of HRO to enhance the capacities of related governmental, judicial, legislative and civil society actors.

Mr. Hardy Ahmed, one of the participants in the training course, stated that this is the first time such advanced training of trainers programme has been held in this district. He added “we really appreciate the role of the Human Rights Office in UNAMI for this initiative, which will have a very positive reflection on human rights promotion and protection in the area.”

The Coordinator of the Project, Mr. Koshish Mohamad, stated that the area really was in need of this kind of capacity building activities. He noted that activists have individually participated in similar trainings from time to time in Sulaymaniyah and Erbil, but never in Jalawla. He added that this training course was a valuable opportunity to train a group of activists together and prepare them to be trainers so they can convey their messages effectively and continue working in the field of human rights.
